Fencing in Kingston, ON

Soldier On will host a local indoor Fencing event at Kingston, ON on May 16 from 12:45 - 4 p.m. This activity will bring together both serving and retired ill/injured CAF members, allowing participants to connect through peer support and encourage a healthy and active lifestyle.

The aim of this activity is to provide an opportunity for both serving and Veteran ill/injured CAF members to use the sport of fencing as part of their recovery and rehabilitation. Regardless of the current skill level, the participants will receive expert instruction on fencing.

Six participants will receive a three-hour introduction to fencing in a safe and controlled environment with the assistance of the Royal Military College (RMC) Fencing Club.

Equipment will be provided by the sport delivery provider. The facility is wheelchair accessible. Adaptive Fencing is available.

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to six.

Minimum eligibility criteria
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) within a reasonable drive of the Eastern Ontario Region of Kingston, ON who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Serving Members
Medical clearance may be required by your chain of command.  

Mental & Physical Requirements
  • Participants must be able to tolerate three hours of moderate-paced activities.
    • Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day.
  • Participants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment.
    • The event is held on the grounds of RMC, a military establishment.
  • Participants will be required to stand, manoeuvre, and use a sword.
    • A fencing helmet and mask will be worn as well as other protective equipment.
Equipment is included.

Transport and Meals
Participants are advised that meals and transportation will not be provided by Soldier On. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location, travel and meals are not eligible for reimbursement for this event.
 
Nomination Forms must be received by Soldier On no later than the 5th of May, 2022.
